Artist's reflection: Color select

       1. Which picture is the best shot of this assignment? Why
The best picture of this assignment is the full picture 1 because there are many colors in the picture.2. Which picture is the weakest shot of this assignment?  Why?
I feel my weakest was full picture 2 because it is lacking in the diversity of colors.3. How can the weakest image be improved on in future shoots?
My weakest shot can be improved by adding more colors and choices of color in the future.4. Did you use Photoshop, Lightroom, or both?  What tools in the programs did you use to edit the pictures?
I used photoshop with the levels, black and white, sepia, and hue & saturation tools.5. Explain how were you able to meet the objectives (GOALS) of the assignment?
I was able to meet the goals of this assignment by showing knowledge of how to select certain colors from a black and white picture.6. What was easy about this assignment? Why?
Taking pictures was both fun and easy. 7. What was difficult about this assignment? Why?
The editing process of this assignment was more difficult than in the past.8. If you could do this assignment again, what would you do differently?
I would take more pictures of the colors on peoples faces.9. On a scale of 1-10 (10 being your best effort) how would you rate your effort in this project?  Why would you give yourself that rating?
I rate myself a 6 because I got pictures that gave sufficient examples for color select, but I could've gotten more.

Artists reflection: Motion

      1. Which picture is the best shot of this assignment? Why

I feel the best picture of this assignment was blurred motion 2 because it was unintentionally a mirrored design of glowing blue and purple and pink. Also it shows the shutter speed was slowed down because it was blurred.

2. Which picture is the weakest shot of this assignment?  Why?
I feel my weakest shot of this assignment was stop motion 2 because I got the picture too early and one of her feet is still on the chair.

3. How can the weakest image be improved on in future shoots?
I can wait for a better opportunity to get the picture, or pay closer attention.

4. Did you use Photoshop, Lightroom, or both?  What tools in the programs did you use to edit the pictures?
I used photoshop on this project. I used the tools level, contrast, color balance, and vibrance.

5. Explain how were you able to meet the objectives (GOALS) of the assignment?
I was able to meet the goals of this assignment by showing my understanding of how shutter speed works by shooting pictures with slow shutter and fast shutter.
6. What was easy about this assignment? Why?
The editing was easy for this project because you could just play around with the brightness and contrast or the color balance until the picture was satisfactory.

7. What was difficult about this assignment? Why?
The difficult part of the assignment was getting pictures. This was difficult because you needed the dark for the blurred motion, but I could never seem to get it at a time I could get pictures, also you needed a model, or burst photo to get stop motion and I didnt have a model until school and my phone wouldn't let me use burst.

8. If you could do this assignment again, what would you do differently?
If I were to do this assignment again I would get many better stop motion pictures, because I was lacking in that area.

9. On a scale of 1-10 (10 being your best effort) how would you rate your effort in this project?  Why would you give yourself that rating?
On a scale of 1-10 I would rate myself with an 8 because I understood this project and I got satisfactory pictures that weren't infinity signs.

Low depth and High depth: Reflection

       1. Which picture is the best shot of this assignment? Why?
The best picture of this shoot is the second high depth because i feel it has the most artistic detail and good editing.

2. Which picture is the weakest shot of this assignment?  Why?
The  second low depth of field picture is my weakest because it is very simplistic and doesn't hold attention for long.
        3. How can the weakest image be improved on in future shoots?
I can improve my weaker shot in projects by adding more detail and capturing something that will hold attention longer.
4. Did you use Photoshop, Lightroom, or both?  What tools in the programs did you use to edit the pictures?
I used Photoshop with the tools, brightness, levels, and color balance.
5. Explain how were you able to meet the objectives (GOALS) of the assignment?
This project was to teach us about low and high depth of field. I was able to meet the goals of this assignment by actively capturing examples of low and high depth of field.
6. What was easy about this assignment? Why?
The easy part of this project was editing because the editing was just playing with the different mechanics of Photoshop until the picture looked good.
7. What was difficult about this assignment? Why?
The difficult part of the assignment was taking pictures, because sometimes my camera would auto focus and not give me the effect I wanted.
8. If you could do this assignment again, what would you do differently?
If I did this assignment again I would get more interesting pictures.  9. On a scale of 1-10 (10 being your best effort) how would you rate your effort in this project?  Why would you give yourself that rating?
on a scale of 1-10 I would rate myself with a 6.5 to 7 because I put in effort to get it done quickly, but I could be a little more in depth with my picture taking.

Back Lighting: Reflection

I feel my best shot of the assignment was number 1 because the editing on this one is my favorite and it turned out the greatest in my opinion. My weakest assignment of this assignment was number 3 because not all the detail from the objects in front of the light were blacked out. I can improve this picture by editing the picture different to make sure that it all looks blacked out and more like a silhouette. I used Photoshop with the curves tool as well as the hue/vibrancy tool. I was able to meet the goals of this assignment by understanding the rules of backlighting and experimenting with the editing software in Photoshop. Getting pictures for this assignment was probably the easiest part of the assignment because there were an abundance of props in the classroom, as well as an abundance of models. The most difficult part of the assignment was probably having to experiment with the editing because I was afraid that the picture that I made with good filters might not look good after making a mistake with the order of editing. If I could do the assignment again I would spend more time being creative with poses for pictures. I rate myself a 5 out of 10 for this assignment because I usually try to get my pictures fast so I can edit because as much as I like taking pictures, I like editing more.

Artist reflection: Texture

I feel my best picture is probably My picture of the tree bark Because there is a really noticeable texture. I feel my weakest photo out of this shoot was the railing texture because it wasn't as strong of a texture as the other ones. My weakest image could be improved in future shoots by getting closer to the object and actually capturing the texture of the railing. I used Photoshop and with The vibrancy, black and white, and contrast. I think i passed all the goals of this assignment. The easy part of the assignment was getting the pictures, because we were given many chances to get them, in class and out. The most difficult part of this assignment was probably also getting the different types of textures. If I were to do this project again I would get better pictures by getting closer to the objects to capture the texture better. I would give myself a 8 on a scale of 1-10 for this project. I would give myself this rating because I put in effort to get my pictures and edit my pictures.

Texture

Smooth/ Shiny- the railing had a smooth and shiny look and the lighting.

Rough- The tree bark is rough and the lighting brings that out.

Spiky- The lighting brings out the shadows and light of the tree leaves.

Artist discovery: Ansel Adams

1) Ansel Adams has a mastery of shooting landscapes.

2) He gets texture from either getting closer to the object, or uses the  lighting.

3) My opinion on his work is that it looks really good. it looks like it would be someone's nature computer background on a computer, or phone.

4) My reasoning behind this is because nature pictures are oddly calming to me.

Artist Reflection

In my photo shoot I believe that my Horizon emphasis is the strongest, or best shot of this picture, because it follows the exact guidelines of that rule. On the opposite end of the range, I feel that my many subjects picture was lacking because I felt that it was just a lazy picture. I can improve my weakest picture in later projects by putting more effort into the look of the picture. To edit my pictures I used Photoshop. In Photoshop I used the vibrancy, color balance, and the lightening tools. I was able to meet the goals of this assignment by following the rules of composition. The easy part of the assignment was editing my pictures, because I got to play around with the Photoshop settings until the picture looked good. The difficult part about this project was going out and getting the pictures, Because I had many things going on that weekend. If I could do the assignment again, I would not forget to take more pictures. I would give myself a 4 or a 5 out of 10 an an effort scale for this project.

composition

Rule of thirds: I chose the rule of thirds because it touches at least two of the cross heirs.

Foreground: The foreground is emphasized with the horizon in the back upper half of the frame

Horizon emphasis: The horizon is in the bottom half of the frame

Leading lines: the road automatically makes you want to follow it, as well as the power lines in the                                                        upper left hand corner of the picture.

Simplicity: The vegetables fill the entire frame.

Avoiding the Bulls eye : The subject is avoiding the middle of the picture.

Side lighting: The light of the sun was coming from the side and giving better lighting.

Multiple subjects: There were multiple subjects in the form of vegetables.

Why the picture of the Falling Man is in the time magazines top 100

In my opinion the reason that the picture of the Falling man is in the time magazines top 100 is because its one of the few pictures that depict someone dying that day. It is also a picture that makes people feel something, because the photo is a quiet addition to the events that day, but the picture speaks volumes by the meaning and context of the picture.
I feel that the picture is in the top 100 of time magazine is because it is an important part of our history and it shouldn't be forgotten. It  is a very plain picture is sight, but the reasoning behind it is one that we should never forget.

snapshot vs. artistic photos

the difference between a snapshot and an artistic photo is that a snapshot is taken quickly and without thought, while an artistic photo takes more time and effort, as well as  possible editing.
